It's All Good !
Spring 2008
Greetings
The staff and management of Goodway Group of Massachusetts, Inc. hope that you and your business are enjoying a healthy and prosperous start to 2008. We are particularly excited because 2008 marks the beginning of a new direction for our company. First some background. Goodway Graphics of Massachusetts was founded in Burlington, MA in 1970 as a satellite operation of the Goodway Group of Companies headquartered in Philadelphia, PA. Through the years, we and our sister facility just outside Washington, DC and our marketing agency at corporate headquarters operated rather autonomously. But changes in technology and demands for increasingly sophisticated service levels led us to conclude that we would be a stronger company working as a team. To solidify this collaboration, in January 2008 Goodway Graphics of Massachusetts became Goodway Group of Massachusetts and Goodway Graphics of Virginia became Goodway Group of Virginia.
"So You Changed Your Name. What's New and Exciting About Your Services?"
Much has changed besides our name. Last summer each facility got its second Xerox iGen3 Digital Color Production Press. If you are familiar with the iGen, you know that this horse eats a lot of hay. We are keeping them busy, but there is plenty of capacity available and there is plenty of room on the floor for more machines. Our Burlington and DC plants now have identical digital footprints that can print nearly 200,000 combined digital color impressions per shift. Further, since each of us has market sectors with different peak demand cycles, we routinely share jobs so that we can meet client delivery requirements. Finally, our marketing agency now offers the latest in non-print marketing solutions such as street and guerilla marketing, podcasts and mobile marketing, incentive programs, retailer co-op, etc.
Besides sharing work, we also use each other's servers as back-up. This safety in numbers assures that if anything were to happen at one of our plants, the other could step in immediately to assure that critical projects continue as scheduled. Last summer, we joined forces with Eagle Mail — an established, independent mailhouse formerly located in Billerica. Operating independently under our roof, Eagle still services its clients directly while serving as our primary mailing back-up. Jointly, our daily capacity to process outgoing mail has quadrupled to over 100,000 pieces.
On the technology front, we have invested in two of the more exciting tools of change in our business. The first is a Web-to-Print application that goes beyond catalog ordering to include cross media marketing campaigns such as email blasts and PURLS (Personal URLs) — all with dashboard monitoring and sophisticated access and reporting options. The second is a Distribute and Print platform that significantly reduces print and shipping costs while delivering consistent color and branding no matter where in the world documents are printed — all with a five day warranted delivery. This process is in keeping with demands for 'sustainable' manufacturing.
Speaking of Sustainability
In November 2007, Goodway Group of Massachusetts received FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification from the Rainforest Alliance's SmartWood® Program. This means that we are able to print certain jobs (like this newsletter) under the FSC trademark. Doing so assures that trees used for making the paper have been responsibly harvested in accordance to the FSC's exacting standards. Our Washington plant received its certification last summer. Also on this front, we recently finished a complete swap-out of every light fixture in our building with new high-efficiency fixtures. This effort will conserve energy while saving us tens of thousands of dollars in electricity charges. We are constantly on the lookout for other ways to reduce our carbon footprint and will report on our progress in future newsletters.

How Can We Help You?
At Goodway Group we pride ourselves in having been early adopters of the technologies that are changing our industry. We were among the first regional offset printers to add production-grade digital equipment to our equipment lineup — the DocuTech's in 1992 and the iGen's in 2002. In 1996, before the term web-to-print was even coined, we developed a proprietary web-based ordering system for our then largest client. It was the backbone of a print-on-demand product documentation system that guaranteed next-day delivery to the client's manufacturing plant. The primary focus of our company is to understand our clients' needs so as to determine the best method of utilizing our web, sheet-fed and digital capabilities to achieve their objectives. Our 50,000 square foot production facility is staffed by experienced professionals who consistently meet or exceed our clients' expectations.
