Our facility opened as Goodway Graphics in 1970 at the suggestion
of America’s largest defense contractors. For years, Washington, DC was the nucleus of this industry
and much of its documentation was printed at our sister plant in Springfield, VA. But in the late 60s
defense firms were migrating north and their buyers needed a regional printer who understood their needs.
Throughout the 70s, firms such as General Dynamics, Raytheon, Electric Boat, General Electric, RCA and
Honeywell were the foundation of our business.
In the 80’s, the defense industry largely moved south and west – leaving Goodway to build upon its
then second largest market sector, High Tech, for which Goodway’s cold webs and extensive in-house
bindery capabilities produced user manuals and other documentation. By the early 1990s, high tech
required shorter runs and quicker turns – a demand Goodway met by becoming one of the region’s early
adopters of digital technology.
By the new millennium, virtually all hardware and software documentation had migrated to CDs or
downloadable PDFs. But by then Goodway’s commitment to digital printing technology, our burgeoning
mailing and fulfillment capabilities and our expansion into a broader based client market had paved
the way for new opportunities. Higher Education, Direct Marketing, product resellers, franchisers,
retailers etc. were all prime candidates for the power of digital printing and its offshoots – variable
data printing (VDP) and web-based print-on-demand (POD).
The 2007 – 2010 recession was harsh on many industries – perhaps none more than the printing industry.
As print volumes shrank in favor of digital dissemination, many of the area’s venerable firms succumbed
to the weight of equipment debt and excess capacity. To strengthen our position in this challenging
market, Goodway Group acquired the staff and assets of one such firm and in 2010 consolidated their
operation into the Goodway facility in Burlington. This new venture features the best elements of each
firm. Our talented staff and enhanced capabilities prove that ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its
parts’. We encourage you to explore the rest of our website, or to contact your account representative
